Cloud computing is appealing to many organizations due to its scalability, easy management and low prices. Cloud migration facilitates the adoption of cloud computing that is flexible.
The cloud migration process of an organization commonly involves blending an onsite IT infrastructure with a hybrid cloud option, which may be accessed over the Internet for a fee. Hybrid cloud solutions transition between one or more cloud providers and typically supply on-demand provisioned server space and, programs and services.Cloud migration is critical for realizing real-time and updated functionality and efficiency. Consequently, cloud migration demands execution, planning and careful investigation to ensure the compatibility of the cloud alternative with organizational demands.
While a cloud migration can present numerous challenges and raise security concerns, cloud computing can also empower an organization to potentially reduce capital expenditures and operating costs while also profiting from the dynamic scaling, high availability, multi-tenancy and successful resource allocation advantages cloud-based computing offers. So when did this trend begin? Around 2010 the cloud migration had began to become reality. For a $600 Million contract in the CIA Amazon and IBM fought in 2013. Amazon won but IBM protested. Why? AWS (Amazon Web Services) is the leader in offering cloud computing services to businesses and IBM is attempting to establish a foothold in the space by leveraging its long history of supplying IT services to the authorities. In many manners the traditional enterprise IT marketplace is being disrupted by Amazon. Like other technology disruptions, especially smartphones, sellers that don't adapt quickly may go out of business. What does all this mean? The writing is on the wall: Cloud computing is unavoidable. The conventional IT infrastructure cannot handle the demands of burst users (as seen in the recent health insurance exchange crashes ), nor does it offer elasticity (price savings for tight budgets), big data capacity (exponential increase in data volume) or agility (quick provisioning in minutes). Like IBM and Amazon, most organizations view the advantages of this new computing-as-a-utility landscape and are ready to forge a road map to get there.
The key strategies are then actions, architecture and evaluation. You will find that route leads to wasted cash and numerous blind alleys while the temptation would be to jump right to the action period. Assess your present state via metadata group (hardware, applications, information, organizational readiness, and architectural readiness) and evaluation strategies (capacity analysis, risk analysis, complexity analysis, etc.). A suitable assessment will allow you to prioritize your migration, locate the fast-wins and know the risks.
Assess and design your objective architecture, after assessing your current state. A cloud-native architecture is different than conventional architectures and strains 'Loose-Coupling', 'Web Standards', 'Asynchronous Messaging' and much more. After both of these periods you're prepared begin the migration process and to take action. Migrating your applications to this new cloud-native architecture is the opportunity to develop an agile IT infrastructure that provides computing power as just as electric power is delivered by utilities!
